PERSONNEL The Walpole Fire Department’s authorized strength, as of July 1, 2007 is Thirty-four full-time firefighters consisting of the Chief, Deputy Chief, 4 Captains, 4 Lieutenants and 24 firefighters. The full-time force operates the apparatus and staffs the Center and East Walpole stations 24 hours a day . The call force consists of 2 Lieutenants and 5 firefighters. The call force operates the fire trucks in the East Walpole and South Walpole fire stations. These two stations are not staffed. FULL-TIME PERMANENT FORCE Administration Chief Timothy F. Bailey, Jr.

RETIREMENTS: Administrative Assistant Barbara A. Kaszanek, hired as part-time Administrative Clerk full time July 1, 1986, re-classified to Administrative Assistant on October 15, 1992. Captain Carl Silvernail unexpectedly retired from the Department in 1999. Captain Silvernail was hired part-time in 1979. In 1984 he was promoted to full-time firefighter. He was again promoted to Fire Captain in 1995. During his career he held the position as the Department Training Officer and was responsible for training many of the new full-time and part-time firefighters. Firefighter Joe Ciancarelli retired from the department in December of 2004, FF Ciancarelli was hired has a Call Firefighter in 1979. He was promoted to Full-time firefighter in 1985. In his career Joe held the position of Motor Co-Coordinator in which he supervised and tracked the maintenance of all the departments apparatus. Chief Edward Hartmann retired in 2005. Hired has a Call Firefighter in 1969, Ed was one of the first Full time firefighters hired by the town in 1972. Promoted to Lt. in 1984 Ed served as the training officer for many years. Promoted to Captain in 1995. After being promoted to Acting Chief in December of 2001 he was permanently appointed to Chief in 2002. Captain Steele Lightbody retired in September 2005. Originally hired in 1973 and made a permanent firefighter in 1974. Steele was promoted to Lieutenant in 1987 and promoted again in 1995 to the rank of Captain. Capt. Lightbody served has the head of public education and S.A.F.E program which taught school children the importance of fire safety. |
